I was reading Naarf's recent article about gender, and it
encouraged me to write to you about it from another point of view. Boys are much more popular in Whyville than
girls are.
Notice how if boys say 'Hi' to somebody, the others always say hi back, especially if
it's a girl because the girl wants the boy to like them. But if a girl says 'Hi'
to another girl or a boy, they don't really get a response unless they know the
person. I have tried it! I went and said so many things, like:
'HI EVERYBODY!!!'
'MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!'
'AM I INVISIBLE?'
I shouted, I added '!!' and still no reply, even if I asked questions. Why are
girls so desperate for boys? They always run around, yelling, 'Single! I'm single!'
(yes, some new boys do that too, but do you realize how the oldbie boys don't really
care?). In fact, most oldbies boy or girl ignore anybody who wants to talk to them
except their friends? What's with this!
What I'm saying here is, Whyville isn't very friendly anymore. If only there were
more people who would say hi to the lonely newbies with no friends. If only
there were more people who were willing to make new friends instead of flirt
with the ones they have.
I have good friends who are girls. But when their other male friends are
around, it's bye-bye Twigsy, you're invisible. I realize that many of my friends come
on Whyville for the boys, but aren't there any who just want a nice chat with
their same gender friends? Any at all other than me?
Some good proof that nobody pays attention to what others say is the time I went
to a few rooms and said 'FIRST PERSON TO SAY MERRY CHRISTMAS GETS 50 CLAMS'. On
average, only 2 people in the room (the rooms were quite full, too) said Merry
Christmas. I gave them clams to say thanks. I also noticed how these people were newbies, who are
constantly looking at what everybody says, in case they want to talk to somebody.
You know, what I am getting to is, please be a little bit more observant of what
everybody says not just the 2 people beside you. It could be important -- maybe
your other friend is around, maybe a person who left Whyville for a year is
back. Wake up Whyville! Pay attention! Don't leave us out.
~Twigsy
P.S. This article probably won't help much, because those careless people are
still talking to their best best friends and don't care about the newspaper. But
I tried! :D
