Hey this is Sugarz... After I read "Black Like Me" by samgir21, I had more courage to write what you will see here. I went and told samgirl21 about "my problems" on Whyville, and she inspired me to write about them.

You all probably know about the September 11th terrorist bombings; that day, the world was shocked. The news that followed the incident portrayed a "Holy War", urged on by Muslims. I am a Muslim -- I will not allow you to judge me or my family on what you hear on the television. The last month on Whyville, I was shocked by some users. (I won't mention names because I am not someone who wants people to pick on others.) They made fun of me because of where I am from, what I eat, and made fun of my family. Listen, everyone: you don't judge every single person out there because of what you hear on the news.

This is my life, and I have to keep going, though racism against Middle Eastern people has risen terribly since that day.

I entered a Whyville chat room one night and a user said, "Ewww it's Paki!" I was shocked by what I heard. Even though I am not from Pakistan, I felt that this user was being really rude. They went on making fun of me, and they ended up calling my dad a terrorist. My hands started shaking and tears came down my cheeks, I was so hurt by this. I asked the user to stop, but do you think racist people listen?  If they did listen, they wouldn't be like this. I asked my friends around me to help me... it ended up being that my "friend" didn't really care, and she continued talking to this person. That night, I had to report the user for other things they had said, and yes, they were banned. Some of you may say, "Pfft, that's not fair."  Well it is fair; next time, think before you start something like that.  I, for one, love to come on Whyville to leave the society that judges you on appearance, and I do not come here to be treated like I'm worthless.

Now back to my story... that user came back on Whyville with their other account, and started it all over again, but they didn't want to be banned again now, did they? So, they went and told a friend of theirs about what happened. A couple of days afterward, that person came into the room and first went, "Ewww, the Paki!"  I was shocked, if for no other reason than for all these people that are completely ignorant of where I'm from.  In the end, it doesn't matter, because they are still being racist.

This person kept going on and on about how I'm so gross and how I stink because I'm a "Paki." As my hands started to shake once again, and tears formed in my eyes, I was hoping I had enough self control to not get myself taped. Then I saw my friends stand up for me, which eventually made the user leave.  That made me really happy that I had these friends...

I will not let you treat me as less than others because of my race, my color, my culture.  I will not let you make fun of my family, what I eat, or how I look.  I will not let you destroy the hope I have for Whyville and for the world, meeting people who are kind enough to accept you the way you are.  You and I are no different in nature; just some of you are ignorant right now.

PROUD TO BE ME!

Hope that'll catch your eye. I got enough courage to share this story with everyone else, and I thank Samgirl21 for that. Thanks!

This is Sugarz, saying, I'm proud to be me!
