When I was reading an article called Ah,
the Newbie Life, I began to think about what the newbie
life is really like.
Everyone that already has their Whyville social life going for them
(that is, basically everyone that has been on Whyville for a long
time), has it easy. But what about the newbies, who have just joined,
and do not know the latest trends, what is cool and what is not? They
do not exactly have things easy for them.
Newbies already have the trouble of trying to make clams just to get
even, say, a nose. Then they go out, with the satisfaction of finally
getting a big enough salary for a nose or finally being able to afford
one, and it is like someone drops a cold bucket of water on them,
telling them they are some ugly Newbie.
The newbie life is hard. I have witnessed a lot of discriminating acts
being done to Newbies. For example, I saw one girl, being made fun of
because she was not wearing the right blush. The other girl was
calling her a 'Blush Newb' to the newbie and the girl's friends. The
poor newbie didnt even get a chance to say hi, or show what she is
REALLY like. Any friendship possibilities were ruined with the
other people, because the one girl had made it known that the newbie
was not 'cool' enough.
Another example: my friend who is a newbie, was once telling me about
the time she was sitting around not saying a thing, then someone
whispered to her: "Ewww." My friend asked her what she was talking
about. And the person goes "Eweweew!" and then my friend asked what was
going on seriously, and the person goes "You are so UGLY!" Now, how
would you feel if someone did that to you? I know how my friend felt.
She decided to quit going on Whyville then and there.
One more example: I read one recent article by Skippy who interviewed
mEWTWOex, and I quote: What do you
think of Whyville? "It's fun trying to earn clams, but I think
newbies are discriminated against."
I remember reading a recent article by Nini345, where she interviewed
people about whether or not what they wear decide what person you are.
Every single person said no. Then why, I ask, do people automatically
decide what type of person newbies are by what they wear? Why if you do
not have the right hair are you automatically pointed at as a loser?
I know it seems like I am pointing a lot of fingers at the older people
of Whyville, but I am just trying to get this idea across: Think before you speak. Don't you
remember of how hard it was when YOU were a Newbie?
Take some time today to get to know a newbie. Then you will REALLY know
what newbies are like. Also, you will probably be making a new friend!
