The composition of a previous article
of mine, "Whyville Magazine
Sponsors" discussed having a magazine for Whyville. This idea
was
generated in hopes of bringing some financial freedom and relief to the
educational-based website that we all appreciate. I am rhapsodic to
learn that at the same time my article was being submitted to the
Times, City Workers were approached by a magazine-producer and "The Whyvillian" -- name
under construction -- may be published, once we gather some good ideas
and commit to the work (and subscriptions!) needed.
Therefore, with the knowledge and
information provided from my
antecedent article, I have come up with my own propositions for the
magazine. What should be included in this magazine? What should the
cost be and how many times per year should it be published?
The
Content
I agree that this magazine should be
produced -- and include
articles
and such -- by us! However, I disagree with some of the content that
the workers have suggested should be included. What makes this magazine
diverse from the rest of Whyville will be the fact that it does not
include
already existing products. This means that everything is unique,
original, modernistic, and never seen before! In addition, this
might even benefit sales, as more individuals will purchase
the magazine for the fact that it contains new information and articles.
This means that, in my opinion,
information dealing with newbies
and
articles on how to be successful on Whyville *should not* be included.
These are resources that can already be found on Whyville, from asking
various citizens, to visiting the many activities, reading game
instructions, and from reading through the Whyville Times. For many
Whyvillians -- such as myself -- this is useless information that has
already been processed, long ago.
Perhaps there could be a section from
Whyville's soon-to-be
Senator, or
articles from the Summer Staff contributors. Whyville workers, such as
City Hall and the Times Editor, can also add in their own pieces
about what is happening around Whyville through various seasons and
events. The MediaWiz can advertise special television programs, our
poetry-and-fiction guru, Calliope, can speak about different novels,
and
Akbar can give fashion advice for the bandwagon victims....
Finances
and Benefits
The cost of the magazine is one of the
most important aspects,
because
it helps to determine how many individuals would be interested in
purchasing the magazine. Before a cost can be concluded, you would have
to decide how many times per year it will be published. The more times
it is published, the higher the price of cost will be. You can either
have the magazine published:
* Every month (12 issues/year)
* Every other month (6 issues/year)
* Special occasions (examples may include Winter
Holiday, Summer, Halloween, etc. at 2-3 issues/year)
The price of individual magazines at
the newstands are around
$3-$5 US
and $4-6 CND. These estimates do not include those citizens who are
overseas. In addition, magazines with this price-range are popular,
known world-wide, and equipped with many advertisements and support
agencies, so they're cheaper than The
Whyvillian will probably be. To subscribe each year, at about
ten issues, the cost is
usually around $16 US, which works out to approximately $20 CND.
Those who decide to purchase the
magazine may be interested in
extra
benefits. These could be special tips from Whyville Workers, to clam
bonuses from their subscriptions, or free face parts at Akbar's... or
probably free Why-Passes, as well.
From articles, poetry, pictures, games,
and more???this magazine is
shaping up to be an commendable idea that is prepared with the ideas of
those who are interested.
