I recently read an article about how dogs communicate with other dogs and humans. I decided to try this at home with my rat terrier named Pongo. I didn't really think that she had the brain capacity to answer my questions, since she also has eyesight problems. It turns out, however, that she really could understand me.

To test the theory, I waited until Pongo walked toward me one day. She put her front paws on my lap and I began asking her a series of questions. "Does that dog want a treat?" My dog merely wagged her tail. Next, I asked her if she would like to go outside. She began to run toward the door to our deck, so I slid it open and she bounded out into our backyard. I guess that proved the scientists' point that dogs pick up mannerisms and other human traits for communication.

You may think I am crazy for talking to my animals. I think now it is a good thing to talk to pets and even other humans around. You never know, maybe Pongo will go get me a Big Mac some time! :-)
