The Last Frontier: Neptune
Neptune. Not really a much talked about planet, but let's do it
anyway.
MYTHS:
Neptune is the Roman god of the sea. Neptune once fell in love with a
water nymph, Amphitrite. He asked her to marry him, but she said no.
He then sent a dolphin out to her, and the animal was so persuasive that she DID
marry him!
MISSIONS:
Only one on this one, too! Voyager 2 from the USA again! It left Earth on August
20, 1977, doing a fly-by, taking images of Neptune, and everything
about it. It reached Neptune in 1989.
FACTS:
Neptune has VERY faint rings. People hardly know they're there!
Neptune also has 8 moons.
Funny fact: Most of Neptune's moons are
numbers! Here are the '#' moons: 1989N1, 1989N2, 1989N3, 1989N4,
1989N5 and 1989N6. STRANGE!
Neptune is a lot like Jupiter in ways. Like Jupiter, Neptune is
'striped' in colors. Also like Jupiter, Neptune has a "Great Dark Spot"
like Jupiter's "Great Red Spot", only the Dark Spot is thought
to be a giant hole in Neptune's atmosphere.
Neptune's clouds are made mainly of methane, just like Uranus.
