School just started, for me, at least. And right now I'm having trouble balancing all 7 hundred books I have to carry up and down the stairs in my school... never mind trying to figure out how to fit Whyville into afternoons where I have dance, Girl Scouts, piano, and confirmation class. And that's without the homework! I don't know about you, but over the summer I spent half my time on Whyville. How am I supposed to fit it in now that I have school? Last year, I practically never went on Whyville because of school. So, here are some tips so you can keep it real and virtual.

1. Set aside a specific time for Whyville. You could choose to go on directly after you get home or go on after you've done your homework. If you choose to go on before you do homework, limit the amount of time you spend on Whyville. Set a certain amount of time to spend each day like 1 hour or less if you have a lot of homework.

2. If you have a large project, concentrate on that, not Whyville. For a few days, just don't go on Whyville. Your grades are more important than your social life in a virtual world. Don't worry about your salary. Once you've made your face and your house, there aren't many things to spend it on. So sit down and work on your project instead of getting up every hour to check if your friends are on Whyville.

3. If you don't think you can fit in both homework and Whyville, don't go on during the week. Only go on weekends. If you finish your homework early or don't have any homework, you can reward yourself by going on during the week. You can let all your friends on Whyville know that you will only be on during weekends and ask them to come on and meet you. You can keep your grades and your social life!

4. If you can't deal with losing Whyville, go on early in the morning, like 6:00 a.m. or later at night, like 9:00 p.m. As long as you get 8 hours of sleep, you can balance this schedule well. But making sure you are in bed by 10:00 is important. If you don't get the right amount of sleep, you won't be able to concentrate in school.

5. If after you've tried all of these methods, you're still spending from 3-8 p.m. on Whyville and not getting your homework your homework done till 11 p.m., then you have to give up Whyville. In my school, homework counts for 20 percent of our grade, usually. If you don't finish it, you have an 80. And that's assuming you're an A+ student otherwise. Also, because you'll be staying up late trying to finish your homework, you will be too tired to work correctly and probably won't get an 80 percent. This would mean normal A students are scraping by with C's, B students are failing with D's, and C students get F's. Do you want to fail?

Those are five of my suggestions for balancing Whyville with school work. You don't have to listen to them. In fact, I will probably be spending too much time on Whyville by October. But I'm going to try to follow my guidelines so I'm not up at 11 p.m. The question is, will you?

This is Hermionez signing off, grumbling about the two projects she has already after only 2 days of school.
