I was looking through the Times' archives recently, and found some pictures and articles
that were very different then what we'd see today. Now, I know Whyville has
changed a lot since it started four years ago, but it's just now that I
realized how much. I decided to interview some veteran Whyvillans to get more
about this.
The questions were:
1. What are some of the most noticeable changes you've seen in Whyville since
you first started?
2. What do you miss most from the olden days?
3. What are your favorite changes?
Here are the responses I received:
Amanda, member since October 1999
1. When I first began, there was barely anything. No Y-mail, Face Factory, Warp
Wagon, the stores had limited parts, your house only could have one room. The
chat back in 1999 was designated topic, designated room at the
designated time. I think the Face Factory has had the biggest impact. Everyone
used to kind of look the same, and now there's a much wider variety.
2. I miss how nice the Whyvillians were. With one or two exceptions, there was
never any dispute really. Everyone was so awesome. Unfortunately, a lot of those
nice people don't come around anymore. (Not that there's no nice
people now, there are, I'm just getting fed up with all these new people who act
rude and act like they own the place.)
3. I definitely like the Y-mail, all-town chat, Face Factory and the Warp
Wagon.

1. Appearance-wise, Why Square has changed a lot, as well as many new additions
such as the AF rec room, the people look different, and they are so many more
people. Oh, and the "popular" hangouts have changed.
2. Not much. I think that while it was a good time to a be citizen, Whyville has
definitely gotten better with time!
3. Oh dear... I don't really think I have a favorite! They're all great!

1. Mainly the attitude towards newbies (everyone used to be a very welcoming),
the fashions, the way people act and the amount of 'oldbies' that are left (hey
guys!). Gee, when you think of it Whyville is so different now.
2. The security of accounts and the people, LoL, we used to have a whole heap of
fun -- I really miss the peanut butter and the goldfish
3. I would have to say...the new games and getting to know the newer members of
Whyville.

1. Wow, there have been a lot of changes since the year 2000 when I started out.
They are mostly positive changes:
-More activities, there are more games and activities, like the whole Why Pox
thing, and the food competition now.
-Akbars, Akbars has changed a lot, personally I think for the better, before
you were only listed by A,B,C,D etc. and other things like that, the fact that
we now have separate stores which makes things a lot easier because
you know who carries what.
-Style and culture, wow over time style has changed, there are so many different
styles and cultures here on Whyville, it really cool how we are able to make our
face the way we want, there are punks, thugs, goths, preps, elfs and the list
goes on... you name it, we got it on Whyville.
-Our Population!
-I guess the Whypass would be another big change.
-Whyvillians have definitely changed! Some for the better, and others for
the worst Unfortunately...
-The senator will definitely be a change for Whyville
2. Hmmm, honestly, I don't know, I'm really loving the new days! But if I had to
choose something... I guess it would be... people, back then most people were more
I guess accepting of others, if you know what I mean. Now many people just judge
you on what you look like... they don't even take the time to get to know you.
3. I like the fact that Whyville is a more diverse town now. There are people of
all ages, ethnicity, styles, and so much more.
Now you know what some veterans think of the changes in Whyville: Some like it,
some don't, and some aren't sure!
