Hey everyone, this is Sugarz. I was looking through the search on the Whyville
Times the other day and found the first Whyville newspaper! I was amazed when I saw that
there was only one subject there: "WELCOME TO WHYVILLE".
This article was published March 3, 1999. I believe it is the first Whyville
article out there! Now, I have some 'Did you know' questions with answers:
Did you know?
1. ...that the citizens of Whyville did not have Y-mail when the site first started? In
the Whyville Times dated November 18, 1999, Bigfoot announced that Y-mail had
come to Whyville.
2. ...that Whyville had a poll about what we should call the money we earn on
here?! That means just like us, citizens had an input on what Whyville was to
become.
3. Wow! Another thing, in an article on August 5, 1999, Bigfoot Bill announced:
"It's Whyville's latest addition to the community -- all-town chat, which means
everyone can see each other and chat almost anywhere in town. Hey, let's make it
a block party! Everybody bring your bad selves and let's get down! " So I am
guessing this means Whyvillians were not able to see themselves or others while
they chatted! Wow! Editor's Note: Actually, Whyville didn't have
any chat at all until then, believe it or not.
4. ...Whyville had votes on "favorite, weirdest, ugliest houses and rooms".
That's
so neat! Think of how fun it would be to design your room and have people
judge it. :-D
5. Did you know that Whyville T-shirts came in November 25, 1999, and we were able to
have our face on it?!! Yes! Our own virtual faces, created by us on a
t-shirt. But remember, back then the faces were more plain. And the t-shirt said
"I picked my nose at Whyville.net. " Haha!
6. ...on Feb 3, 2000, Ye Olde Projectile Shoppe was opened. Now I see that
it took a while to get Whyville going, and to make everything more well known.
7. Did you know that on March 9, 2000, the Playground room was announced as
Whyville's newest room? Wow! A lot of rooms got added through the years.
8. ATTENTION DESIGNERS: Did you know that on March 16, 2000, Akbar decided to let
the citizens of Whyville start designing?! Wooo! A BIG STEP!
9. ...the first Whyville prom was announced on Apr 27, 2000, in the Times.
But the
prom took place on May 27!
10. Okay, this is the last one.... Did you know that the Whyvillians of the past wanted a theme park
like us; they also wanted houses that we could have kitchens in (those, we have now)?
So
come on, Whyville! Maybe there will be a theme park for us someday!
All right, everyone. That's all for now! I'll be back later with
more amazing facts.
This is Sugarz, saying toodaloo! ;-)
