Hi, this is cmtm129, reporting to you. My article is in response to sHaTter3d's piece
from last week's edition of the Times. City Management has clearly stated that
they will rid of the parts we buy within three months, and I understand that.
But what I don't understand is why we can't delete face parts we don't sell
anymore. I mean, I have a TON of parts I made when I was new that I know I won't
be selling any longer, and I'm sure a lot of you out there do too. If I got rid
of the parts I don't sell anymore, I would be getting rid of more than 17% of my
stock!! That's a lot when you think about it. (Editor's Note:
I'm told that City Hall will be creating a tool for you to do that soon.)
I think the main reason that a lot people are mad about the face parts being
taken away is because they are so concerned about how they look. If they don't
have the 'cool' face parts anymore, then they will be called dumb or a 'newbie.'
I see it happen all the time, and have experienced it a few times myself. But
maybe they're also concerned about losing bought parts because of the clams they
spent on them. I believe this would concern the newest people who just joined Whyville, because their salaries are so low. But in terms of the people who
aren't new to Whyville, you should have a high enough salary that losing those
few extra clams shouldn't be a real problem... right? And have you realized that you
can buy a lot of those parts back?
But then people say, "Oh, well, I only have 1,000 clams on my account!" One
thousand
clams? That's a lot! I mean, will you ever use up ALL of those clams? I doubt
it, especially if you maintain a decent salary. I know about this because I used
to be one of those people who complained like that. But having one, or two, or three thousand clams on
your account is a lot of money, and you can easily afford losing say,
300+ clams due to lost parts.
Even if you have a different reason for complaining about this big parts loss,
you still don't have an excuse. A lot of people say, "I hate this losing parts
thing they're doing! I'm going to quit Whyville just because things are getting
rough!" But if someone suggested to those people, "Well, why don't you get one
of your favorite restaurants or stores to sponsor Whyville?" then they say, "Oh,
well... um... I don't really feel like it." -- Ahhh, I see. All of you complain, but no one's willing to do something about
the problem. A lot of
people are saying, "Buy Why-passes or buy something from the Whyville stores!"
but some of us don't have the money to buy, so they just give up.
City
Hall has told us, and written articles about how we can ask a store or
restaurant to sponsor Whyville... but has anyone actually tried? What's the worst
the companies could say? No? At least you would have tried.
And you can keep trying.
Everyone or anyone who is concerned about this should go out and ask some shop,
restaurant, bank, organization, etc. to help Whyville out. You wouldn't be just
helping the parts shortage and yourself (City Hall has promised anyone who finds
a real sponsor a year-long Why-Pass... or maybe even a lifetime Why-Pass, if
it's a good enough sponsor!)... you would also be helping City Management and their
financial situation by finding them money. I bet you because of their tight
budget, they've had to cut salaries of their employers to a bare minimum, or
nothing at all, so why don't you help them out?
This is cmtm129, signing off.
Have a great day!
