Hey! This is ShortHart again, giving you my opinion. Today, I want to discuss
books with you, in particular, the Harry Potter series.
Harry Potter. A name many people are familiar with, a name many people adore, a
name many people fear. Just saying that name in front of a group of people
brings out many different feelings and opinions, and I would like to take up
just a little of your time exploring these feelings and opinions.
1) I've found that the majority of people that I talk to read and love the Harry
Potter books. That's great! But what I want to know is WHY exactly they love
these books. Most people will tell you, either they're funny or they wish they
themselves were really secretly witches and wizards like Harry.
2) Other people (primarily adults) want bans put on books and will not let their
children read them. I can the understand that, from a religious point of view. I
just don't agree with them trying to convince others to believe/feel a different
way. (Isn't that how most wars start?)
3) Some think they are above "children's fantasy books." I, myself, have a hard
time understanding why. In the earlier part of the series, yes, the books were
geared to "younger audiences" but lately, I've noticed that they are starting to
grow as Harry does. J.K. Rowling does have a talent for writing and makes the
books funny, exciting, interesting and suspenseful, which is a very rare thing
to come by.
4) Others (*gasp!*) have never read the series since they really don't think
they'd find the books interesting. I say, if you know what you like, good for you!
I myself, love the books, but they would not be number one, or even number five,
but hey, that's just me.
Signing off,
ShortHart
