Hi, this is ShortHart here, writing to tell you that I'm ready to take a much
needed break from this completely addictive site know as Whyville. I know many
others have done it before and written to the Times to tell you about it, but I'm
going to do the same.
A few months ago, I read an article in one of my favorite magazines, Girls Life.
It talked about Whyville and said how great the site was -- not to mention free! So, the
next chance I got, I went online and headed to Whyville to sign up. It took me a
couple of weeks to learn about the game, but soon, I had it figured out. I HAD
to get online every day to check my mail AND get my salary. Pretty soon, I was
spending three hours a day online.
I've reduced that number to practically nothing in the past month, mostly
because school started and I had a real life again. (Not to mention tests to
study for!) But now, I think I want to give myself a break to do things besides
Whyville and school. I want time to hang out with my friends and still have a
few minutes to myself everyday.
I've been meaning to do this for some time, but haven't really done it because
I really didn't have anything better to do with my time than hang out on
Whyville. Now, I have two orchestra classes starting twice a week, which should
take up about 7 hours of my time each week. I have school (which is an
additional 35 weekly) and volleyball will start soon (another 10 hours). With all
this, I will have 8 hours to myself a week. Wait! I forgot to eat! And then, I
have friends and studying! Where does Whyville fit in?
Thinking about it, I've decided I haven't been doing as much reading these past
few months as I would have liked to. Hmmm... I think I'll go read "The Slippery
Slope," or maybe "Knocked Out by My Nunga-Nunga's," or maybe the few lessons in my
history book that I have "forgotten" to read. Wait, did I just suggest I read my
HISTORY book? No, I'm not quite that far gone yet.
This is ShortHart, signing off (so I can do my history homework, or not...).
