Hey! Britney2 here with another serious issue: Bullying.

Now, there are many types of bullying, including the kinds you find on Whyville, but there are also some more serious kinds of bullying, as I found out just today.

It was like any other Friday, kids were laughing and goofing off eager to get out of school and relax. But as I walked to my fifth period class and took a seat, everything changed. Like every other day a group of "popular boys" were off in the corner of the classroom bugging what we refer to as a "geek," and like every other day he was taking the abuse while all of the other students were laughing at him. But, like I said this was not like any other day. This boy was tired of being made fun of, and something within him cracked.

He jumped up from his chair and started hitting, kicking, throwing things at people and punching. I was taken aback by this sudden change and stood there, staring horror-stricken. I watched as he punched every part of the "popular kids" he could get a hold of, almost if he wanted to cause them as much pain as they had given him through the years, all in that one moment.

Finally, the teachers were called and they began the process of pulling the boys apart. They had arrived just in time to prevent serious injury, but there were still some minor cuts, reflecting on the serious damage that this could have caused. The boys were sent to the office almost as if nothing had happened and class had resumed as usual, although the atmosphere did not change and kids began talking about what had just happened.

Some people thought it was cool, but I for one did not. What if he had brought a gun or something else to school? I mean, other kids that have been bullied had done it before at different schools. Who is to say that it couldn't happen here? Innocent people could have died today, just because people were picking on someone who is different.

I can't say that I am much better, though, since I never myself had the guts to stand up for him. I would just ignore him so I wouldn't have to tease or help him. I guess I was afraid that my friends might think differently of me if I did, although I know I am just like them now because of my actions.

I guess what I am trying to say is if you know someone who is being bullied you should try to help them, because you never know what might happen or when someone's life might change before your eyes.

Britney2.
