Malaria is a disease caused by one
tiny-celled parasite.
More than 300 to 500 million cases of
malaria a year crop up around the world. One million cases are deadly.
How do you get malaria? Mosquitoes
spread malaria. When mosquitoes bite an infected person, they ingest
parasites. The parasite must grow for a week or more before the infection
can be passed to another person. The parasite injects itself into the
liver. While the parasite is in the liver, the person doesn't feel any
pain.
