Greetings, TV viewers!
The discussion topic for the media hour Wednesday will be your experiences at fast food restaurants, looked at from a scientific viewpoint. Example: Do you know what's in the food and what about it is good or bad for you? What did you learn when you read the information they sometimes provide about the food? On what basis did you decide which fast food brand is your favorite? Watch the "Dateline NBC" show Sunday for some information on this topic. And check the website of your favorite fast food chain to see is they have any information you can use.
For the Media Hour, watch the show(s)-of-the-week, jot down some ideas, then talk about them with me and other citizens (including other City Workers, if they're available) at the Greek Theater, over in City Hall. You'll find that the Theater makes discussions pretty easy, since City Workers are able to direct people's movement and behavior, when we need to, and it keeps everyone's chat bubbles from overlapping too much. We meet for MediaHour on Wednesdays from 6:30pm to 7:30pm Whyville Time (that's the same as Eastern Daylight Time).

"A Bug's Life" (Disney Channel, 8-10 p.m. E/P) This is an animated movie about clever ants who team up with other insects to keep a gang of grasshoppers from terrorizing their colony. Available on video and DVD.
"NOW With Bill Moyers" (PBS, 9-10 p.m. E/P) For young viewers interested in someday going into business, and not afraid to find out at an early age what may be involved in such a career, here's a documentary to watch. Entitled "Profiting from War," it explains the details of many contracts hidden from public disclosure, who's getting the big contracts to rebuild Iraq? The U.S. Congress recently approved $87 billion dollars for Iraq and Afghanistan. Questions are being raised about how this money is being spent and how some big corporations' ties to the White House may be leading to war profiteering, with taxpayers paying the price. "The Black Stallion" (Turner Classic Movies Channel, 6-8 p.m. ET, 3-5 p.m. PT) This is an excellent movie version of the classic adventure novel by A boy and a horse forge a close friendship after being shipwrecked together in Africa.
Sunday, November 16
"Dateline NBC" (NBC, 7-8 p.m. E/P) The main story in this newsmagazine is a report on conditions at the ten most popular fast food chains in the United States. One hundred restaurants from each of the top ten chains were looked at for a number of health violations and then ranked. The survey covered restaurants in 38 states and included Arby's, Burger King, Dairy Queen, Hardee's, Jack-in-the-Box, Kentucky Fried Chicken, McDonalds, Subway, Taco Bell and Wendy's. Undercooked meat, unwashed hands, improper food storage, and a host of other potentially hazardous problems were among the violations discovered.
Monday, November 17
"American Experience: The Kennedys" (PBS, 9-11 p.m. E/P) Episode 1 of this documentary about the great American political dynasty is entitled "The Father" It traces the rise of Joseph P. Kennedy, on Wall Street, his marriage to Rose Fitzgerald, his Hollywood film career, and his involvement with Franklin D. Roosevelt's government. (Part 2, airing tomorrow, November 18 is entitled The Sons" It recalls the carefully cultivated glamour of John and Jackie Kennedy's White House, JFK's assassination and Edward Kennedy's unsuccessful 1980 presidential campaign. Tuesday, November 18
"Around The World In 80 Days" (Turner Classic Movie Channel, 8-11 p.m. ET, 5-8
p.m. PT) This is a movie version of the classic Jules Verne novel about a Victorian gentleman who bets that he can beat the world's record for circling the globe. He uses every form of travel technology available in the mid 1800's, including the device that had just proved so useful for spy missions during the American Civil War- a hot-air balloon. Wednesday, November 19
"Double Teamed" (Disney Channel, 8-10 p.m. E/P) This movie is based on a true story about a pair of
California twins who develop an athletic rivalry in high school that drives both of them to get on to a professional team in the Women's National Basketball League. Available on video.
Thursday, November 20
"The Lost Child" (Hallmark Channel, 8-10 p.m. E/P) This movie is based on the book, "Looking For Lost Bird," by Yvette Melanson and Claire Safran about Melanson's discovery she had been born to a Navajo mother and then adopted by her Jewish family.
Friday, November 21
"Kennedy Tapes Revealed" (Bravo Channel, 8-9 p.m. E/P) This documentary features excerpts from a never-before-released oral history that Robert Kennedy began recording shortly after JFK's assassination. It provides an intimate, historic account of his brother's presidency. Also featured in the program are original interviews with Arthur Schlesinger, Jr., Robert McNamara, Senator Edward M. Kennedy, and other family members, historians and administration insiders.
