I recently got a piece of chain mail. It was about a girl committing suicide. It claimed that if you didn't send the message on to 12 people, your house would burn down. That is all hogwash. Don't send messages like that.

There are very good reasons for this. For one thing, you will be reported. I reported that message even though the sender was a good friend of mine. She was sending it just because it was sent to her. She is now mad at me because I reported her.

The following is a quiz to see if you would prefer friendship over being a good person and following the rules:

1. You and your best friend are hanging out at the Pool Party. All of a sudden, your friend yells out, "FREE MAKEOVERS! ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS TELL ME YR PW!" What are you going to do?
A. Double click on her/ him and press the report button.
B. Report him/ her and then send him/ her a bunch of mail saying how sorry you are.
C. Leave the room and pretend you didn't notice. After all, someone else will probably report her/ him anyway.
D. Just keep gabbing! So what if she/ he gives out makeovers. It's not like he/ she's going to steal someone's stuff.

2. After you first came onto Whyville, this nice person offers to show you around Whyville and show you how to make clams. When you get to the games, this person says, "It would be much easier to just give me your password and let me play the games. You could get a really high salary that way." What would you do?
A. Report him or her. And if he/ she asked you later on, you would tell her/ him that you reported him /her.
B. Report her or him. But you will pretend that you weren't the one that reported him/ her because you want to stay friends.
C. You left the room. Later, you tell him/ her there was a glitch in your computer that made you leave.
D. Yay! Now I can get a high salary AND I don't have to work for it.

3. Someone you became friends with on Whyville is in the playground. You are chatting when a kid comes up and tells her she is ugly. She shouts string of curses that definitely fit under the lewd and offensive remarks category. What would you do?
A. Report her. There are eight year olds on this site.
B. Report her, but send her a couple messages telling her that you are sorry and hope that we can remain friends.
C. As soon as she comes back to you, say your mom is calling you and you gtg. Pretend you didn't hear or see anything.
D. Who cares? Everyone knows those words. Sure, they're bad, but I've heard even worse on my bus.

4. You walk into the beach and spot one of your friends that you met a month ago. But... she is topless. What do you do?
A. Walk over and chew her out about it. Announce that you are going to report her.
B. Report her and then leave before she notices that you're in the room.
C. Leave before she notices you.
D. Walk over and ask where she got it.

5. You get a y-mail saying: 'My name is Ginger. On May 7th, I took my own life. If you do not send this mail to 12 other people, you house will burn down on that date.' This from your friend who you've known since July. What do you do?
A. Report her. It talks about suicide, which is against the rules.
B. Report her and send her a bunch of y-mails saying how sorry you are.
C. Delete the message without sending it on.
D. Send the message out to twelve people. After all, you don't want your house to burn down.

Okay, the quiz is over. How did you do?

Mostly A's- You are a stickler for rules. You would rather be morally correct than have a huge bunch of friends. That isn't a bad thing, but make sure you don't go report crazy. Always think about why you are reporting someone and if you have a good reason. Sometimes talking with the person about what they did and why it bothered you is a better way of handling things, both in Whyville and in real life.

Mostly B's- You believe in doing what's right, but you don't want to lose your friends because of it. You probably have a habit of saying sorry for a lot of stuff even if you were right to do it. Remember that if you're right, you shouldn't have to apologize. (This is where I scored! Hello, fellow B's!)

Mostly C's- You don't like rule breaking, but you are afraid to report someone. You prefer disappearing to reporting people. Have a little backbone! If you are sure that you're right about reporting someone, then do it.

Mostly D's- Tsk, tsk, tsk! You have no regard for the rules. Instead of reporting, you will join right in. You should be careful, because you may end up in trouble soon.

This test was mainly a judge of how you respond to misbehaving friends. I have only one question left. If it was someone you don't know in these situations, what would you do? Some people who wouldn't report their friends would probably report a stranger for the same thing. Is it fair to give your friend preference over someone else? I don't think so.

That was two questions, wasn't it? Oh, well.

This is Hermionez signing off; to go read my brother's Christmas present.
