The new year comes every year,
with fireworks,
champagne,
and delight.
But what of those
to whom this time
is merely another night,
who know not
the joys of expensive drinks
and bright lights in the sky,
that make noises
which interrupt their dreamless sleep?
They care not
for they can't afford to;
what little they have
hardly adds up to
the expenses which go into
this festive occasion.
So let us not think of ourselves,
but direct our attention to those less fortunate
so that they may know the joy
which we know every day.
