"Doomed Queen Anne" is the name of the first book in the 'Young Royals' series,
which includes "Beware, Princess Elizabeth" and "Mary, Bloody Mary."
"Doomed" is 230-page historical fiction novel. The book takes place from 1520-1536
in England, and was
written by author Carolyn Meyer.
Queen Anne Boleyn Tudor, or Anne Boleyn as she is known, is the heroine of the
story. Or is she? I don't think calling her the heroine is appropriate, because
she was the one in the story who caused the problems, in a sense. Anne Boleyn was the middle
child, and the ill-favored daughter because she had a mole on her neck and the
stub of an additional finger on her left hand. When she was 13 she said she
would one day marry King Henry VIII, even though he was already married to Queen
Catherine of Aragon. That was when the conflict started.
When King Henry
began courting Lady Anne, he was still married to Queen Catherine. After six
years of waiting, he divorced Catherine, secretly marrying Anne before the
divorce was finished, and Anne became pregnant.
All the astrologers and doctors
said she would have a son, but then she had Princess Elizabeth. She started to
have an anger-management problem, and had 3 miscarriages. Then King Henry fell
in love with Lady Jane Seymour (who would later bear him a son), and charged Anne
with treason.??
At the end of the novel, Anne Boleyn is beheaded on Tower Green.
I give this book 4 1/2 stars. What's great about it is that all of
it was true, it all happened along time ago! In other stories about King Henry
VIII (or his son, or any of his two daughters) I've never seen them mention in full
depth, or in as much detail why or how Anne Boleyn came to be, and how she achieved
part of her goal, only to lose it all at the end.
If you want to know what happened during the dramatic life of Anne Boleyn, I suggest you get off the computer and read this book.
Off to read a new one!
**PEACE**
This book is aimed at kids ages 12 and up.
