I never thought I would see the day when a fun Internet game would turn into a
nasty racist fight! Nowadays, people seem to judge you by the way you look, and
not by the person that you really are! There are many types of "groups" in
Whyville. Here are some of the "groups":
Goth -- People who dress as a goth, it seems, usually have the hardest time
in Whyville. People that dress as goths usually wear
everything black. People that do not wear gothic clothes tease them. They say nasty comments like "You look like a
funeral home," and "You don't belong here so get lost!" Personally I do not
think discriminating against these people who aren't from your "group" is right,
all because of
what they wear. Lately, goths are said to hang around Sector Y.
Prep -- Preps are stereotypically people who are cheerleaders. Preps get teased because
they think that they are "all that and a bag of chips," when really they are
not. They are just regular people. The biggest "wars" in
Whyville have happened between preps and goths. Preps are said to hang around the Beach and
the Sun Roof.
Punk -- Punks usually like to hang around with goths. Punks usually wear all
black, and splashes of colour. Punks are probably the least discriminated
against because they are a mix between preps and goths. Punks are supposed to
have crazy and wacky hairstyles.
City Workers -- Now why can we all be like these kind people!? City Workers are
the ones who keep Whyville alive! They wear whatever they want, and they don't
tease other people about what they are wearing. City Workers always wear the
City Worker beanie hat, which is blue, red and yellow. City Workers set a good
example for all of you other Whyvillians out there... so try to be a good citizen
like these people!
You can be racist be teasing people on what they are wearing. These are just
some examples of the people who get teased because of what they wear! So don't
discriminate, or you could get punished! Do you think there should be some kind
of punishment for racism?
??
Editor's Note: I see a lot of people refer to discrimination like this
as "racism" -- but racism has to do with race, not with your social group.??
Not that social discrimination is any better!?? But why do we label
ourselves and our groups like this??? What's so important about being part
of an "us" that makes us willing and even want to be attacked by a "them"?
Also, since when did Whyville become a place that could be divided into
groups by chatrooms??? EVERY ROOM IS FOR EVERY BODY.?? It irks me to no
end to think that there might be just one person who thinks that one chat room
should be for one "type" of person.?? That's just silly! -- no offense,
fuschia99, I'm sure it wasn't your idea. ;-)
