If visiting the Face Factory only to see that Grenouille is taking a little vacation again or going to pick your nose and discovering that your favorite part has mysteriously vanished makes you want to chuck a stone at your computer screen, you're not alone. Many other Whyville citizens feel the same way. Here's a handy, simple guide for dealing with our chums Grenouille and Akbar.

1. Start useful, constructive petitions, not whiny complaints.

Lately I have noticed A LOT of petitions along the lines of, "Let the Face Factory be open ALL THE TIME! Grenouille, quit being lazy and WORK FOR US." Hate to break it to you, but it's not as simple as all that. The workers at Whyville would be more than happy to let you create face parts all the time, but that's just not possible right now because of technical problems. Starting a million petitions that insist the Face Factory stay open is not going to do anything. Instead, be more specific on how Akbar or Grenouille could possibly improve. Explain useful, creative ideas that could help Grenouille. For instance, try looking at Ahdieh's article, "Makeover Ideas For Akbar!", which explains ways Akbar could improve his process. She suggested various helpful ideas, such as having a practice template for beginning designers (instead of having them take up space at Akbar's) and maybe having veteran designers giving Akbar a hand. Maybe reading her article will even give you your own new ideas on how you might be able to help out Akbar and Grenouille!

2. Maintain your designing skills.

Even if you can't design your face parts all the time, don't let that get in the way of your creativity! Keep a list of your ideas for new face parts so that you won't forget what you want to make once the Face Factory is actually open. You probably have a program like Paint on your computer, so use it to practice, practice, practice and test out your ideas for face parts. By the way, here are the sizes that face parts come in, so that you can see if your part will work on the face part template:

    Small -- 20 by 20 pixels
    Medium -- 50 by 50 pixels
    Large -- 100 by 100 pixels
    Extra large -- 200 by 200 pixels
3. Keep track of your parts.

If you're having trouble keeping track of your face parts when they expire, here are some tips. Make a list of your face parts and where you bought them. Whenever you buy new face parts, add them to your list. This way, if your face parts expire, you can always know where to buy them again. Or, maybe you're having a minor spending crisis with those glorious clams. If this is true, shelling out clams on new face parts once your old ones expire might present a problem. You may need to play more games to raise your salary -- hey, I doubt that you've played them ALL already -- and work on not spending as much. Visit Whyville just a bit more often if possible, and when you buy a face part or something else, make sure it's something you will really use. Try hunting for bargains, too -- many stores have great sales.

This is hipriter, signing off. Hope my tips have helped you Whyville designers or fashionistas (fashionistos?) out there!

P.S. By the way, speaking of Grenouille, did you ever wonder what his name really means? Well, if I'm not mistaken, "Grenouille" actually means "frog" in French! Hee hee. ;-) Also, to learn about Akbar's name, read Amazing's interesting article, "About Akbar's Origin."
