Hey! This is hottiemb with yet another help article! This time, I've decided to
write an article on how to write articles and send them to the times since I've
been asked so many times by so many citizens! =D
The big question around Whyville is, "How do I write for the Whyville Times?"
Sounds so simple, yet so complicated. Now, I could give you tips on writing an
article or I could give you step-by-step instructions on how to send them to the
Times and get them published. Because of the variety of questions I am asked
every day, I will include both! ;)
First of all, if your new to this whole writing article business, here are some
things you might want to think about when writing your first article:
* Help and science articles are two of the best kinds of topics you can write
about. You will see that more educational articles get published than any other
kind.
* Spell all words correctly and don't use bad or inappropriate language. If your
article contains curse words or R-rated language, it definitely won't be
published.
* You probably want to start out by writing a short article if it's your first
time, but longer articles are great, too!
* Try to stay focused on a topic and don't wander off into something that has
nothing to do with what the article was supposed to be about.
* Always remember to put your name (screenname) somewhere on your article if you
want credit for it. If you wrote a very good article but didn't put your name on
it and it's published, the author will be listed as "unknown author."
* DON'T PLAGIARIZE! I can guarantee that if you send in something that somebody
else wrote, your article will not get published. You can also get in huge
trouble outside of Whyville for plagiarizing. If you want to use the same
sentence or phrase that your source says, put it in quotes and state what book
or site or newspaper you got it from.
* Name all of your sources. Naming your sources is important for two reasons.
One, so the Times Editor can make sure that you don't plagiarize by mistake and
two, because maybe somebody is really interested in your article and wants to
learn more about it.
After you complete your article, you will have to send it to the Times Editor.
Some people might think this part is a little confusing but I'm going to try to
make it as simple as possible.
Ok, first you need an e-mail address. You will have to e-mail (not Y-Mail) your
article to times@Whyville.net. For your subject heading, it is best to start it
like this: article, your name; the title of your article. So if I was writing an
article about red blood cells, my subject heading would be: article, hottiemb;
Red Blood Cells. After you proofread your article and send it, your part is
done.
If your article got accepted, it will be in the Times about two or three weeks
after you sent it in. If your article doesn't get published the first time, try
again and again! Learn from your mistakes and eventually one of your articles
will get published. Don't get discouraged!
I hope all of you curious Whyvillians are not curious anymore! LoL, just
kidding.
XOXO,
hottiemb
