It lurks on every street corner and in every supermarket. About 90% of
Americans consume this substance in one form or another every day. And you know
what else? I bet you could've had some of it last night for dessert. What is it? Trimethylxantine, of course! In other words, it's CAFFEINE!
??
Firstly, let me bombard you with the facts. More than half of adult Americans
consume more than 300 milligrams of caffeine daily, thus making it the most
popular (legal) drug. It exists in coffee, tea, soda, and chocolate -- just to name
a few.
Caffeine is actually a highly addictive substance. Chances are, your parents are
addicted. Do they have a "Cup 'a Joe"?? every morning to jump start their
day? If so, it is more than likely that they rely on caffeine to help them
function throughout the day.
The real matter is, are you addicted? Since you're
young, you can change your caffeine habits and be a caffeine-free adult! Do you
feel you
need coffee, soda, chocolate, or any other caffeine-containing substance in the
morning? If you don't have it, then do you have a really bad headache throughout
the day?
If you answered yes to those questions, then you may already be addicted.
It doesn't just have
to be in the morning, either. Whether it's an afternoon snack or morning munch,
it is still caffeine.
Here are some foods & drinks that you can substitute for
those substances containing caffeine: caffeine-free tea, milk, juice, yogurt, Nutri-Grain Bars (or similar products)... The list goes on and on, people.
From
experience, let me tell you that it's not a good think to get hooked, and you
feel MUCH better when you're caffeine-free.??Of course, you don't have to be
*absolutely* caffeine free! Some soda and chocolate is okay. But the key word
here is moderation.
Have a nice, caffeine-free day!
