Whyville: a place of interactive chat, where people can spend time learning things about the world and meeting new people. Sounds fun, doesn't it...?

But becoming a Whyvillian can be a very big deal. So many of my friends are claiming they could never quit, some are even claiming they have to. Why? you may ask. It's because Whyville is an addiction. So I decided to go find out more about what makes Whyville so popular.

Me: Hello, do you mind if I ask you a few questions for the Whyville Times?
Tonsoffun: Nope!
Me: How long have you been going on Whyville?
Tonsoffun: Since September 2002.
Me: That's a pretty long time, what keeps you coming on?
Tonsoffun: 1. It's addicting, the only way I think I could stop was if my computer broke. 2. I have so many friends, and I can't leave them.
Me: What's your favorite part?
Tonsoffun: Meeting new people from all over the world!

Me: May I ask you a few questions?
tlcgrl: Sure?
Me: How long have you been going on Whyville for?
tlcgrl: For about two years in August.
Me: What keeps you on?
tlcgrl: Mostly meeting new people.
Me: Would you say that you're addicted?
tlcgrl: YES! VERY!
Me: Thank you for your time

There you have it: Whyville is an addiction, like chocolate, and it's catching as fast as sneezes. But you may be wondering, what makes Whyville so addictive? Maybe it's because it's a place where you can meet new people from everywhere in the world, but it's also a safe environment. Parents can trust Whyville to help keep their children safe, and let them have fun, too!
