Well, now that I have got your attention, I'd like to bring up some points about
the craze that has been sweeping the world around me: dieting.
Point 1:
Don't diet if you are average or below average weight! Doing so is dangerous to
your health. If you want to shed a couple of pounds, then exercise. Going on
things like the Atkins diet and Weight Watchers is only wise if you want to lose 10
or more pounds.
Point 2:
Exercising is key if you are on a diet. Exercising helps to get your metabolism
up, which allows you to keep the weight off. It is not going to be fun at first (trust me, I
know!), but eventually you will see how much weight you lost and love it! FYI:
The way I understand it, if you are sore the day after exercising, that's normal. What you need to do is
exercise that day, too. Eventually exercising will become a regular routine.
Teenagers (about 13-17) are recommended to exercise about 45 minutes a day. (Editor's
Note: Who recommends this? I'm curious...)If
you are under 13, then 30 minutes is plenty. If you are over 17, then an hour is
recommended.
Point 3:
If you are unsure about going on a diet, then ask your doctor. Your doctor can
probably give you a chart to help you see what foods you need to eat. Never go
on a diet unless your doctor says you need to!
Point 4:
Get your sources straight. Read books on dieting and see what to do and what not
to do. This way you have a full understanding.
Point 5:
Joining a club like the YMCA is a great way to help you stay in shape, because
then you can get a personal trainer to help you out. (But personal trainers can
be very
expensive! On the other hand, just joining the Y to use their gym and weight
room can be very cheap.) You don't have to join a club to exercise. Try running in the park,
or riding bikes.
Tips:
* Starvation is NOT a diet
* Do NOT eat shortly before you exercise! You could get sick. And, your exercise
will be less effective.
* Dieting is NOT for everyone!
Here is another tip for you, on your way out! Ask you parents to help.
Have them buy healthier foods instead of junk food. That way you aren't tempted
to eat those foods.
