I know that most of you
may have read the article about blondes in the Whyville Times a little while
ago. I'm not sure about you, but when I read it I thought it was totally unfair
and judgmental.
I'm a blonde on this site,
so already I must be a "trend following money," or so this person seemed to
think. Great, I've been labeled by a person I've never before come across in a
chat room.
I don't think that this
person wanted to upset anyone by what they said, but they made some statements
in the article that just makes it seem if you wear blonde hair then you must
somehow be a clone of some sort.
"Whenever I'm in a chat
room all I see is clones, trend followers."
This was a sentence taken
out of their article -- you can probably see why these accusations could offend
some people.
"What you're saying if
you buy blonde hair and you don't have blonde hair [in real life] is, "Hey I'm a
trend-following monkey.""
Come on, people can wear
whatever color hair they want on this site and they shouldn't be attacked by
other people for it. If I wanted to, I could say the same thing about people
wearing brown hair on this site when they really have red or black or any other
color hair in real life.
But no one's said that yet
because there are supposedly more blonde people on this site than there are
brunettes.
What next? Will people
start accusing Goths for wearing dark clothes and white faces just because they
want to stand out and float around depressed? (I know that isn't true, I was
just saying it because it's what JUDGMENTAL people think.)
Since when is Whyville
about what we wear and how we look? This is a site for us to learn and interact
with other people from all around the world. It's not fair if people start to
discriminate and put down others -- like calling someone a "trend-following
money" just because they want to wear blonde hair.
No one is forced to look a
certain way. What does it matter if one person wants to wear blonde hair or if
everyone on this site does?
-Swoitypie??? more than a
monkey, lol
