Yesterday (Monday, May 10), my younger sister and I found a baby bunny hiding
under my father's truck. Its leg was bleeding. Other than the leg, it was
breathing all right and looked like it would live. My family and I rushed the
little bunny to the local vet.
I thought it slightly ironic that the injured rabbit was then placed in an old
Easter basket... it was all we had at the time. Anyway, we brought the rabbit in
and hoped for the best. Later that night, the vet called to tell us the bunny had
died -- he had internal injuries and couldn't pull through. It appeared that he
had been attacked by a cat.
Three cats prowl the area around our house:
Fluffy is my cat. I try to keep her in; she was an indoor cat all her life, but now
she sneaks out. Fortunately, she is spayed.
Ninja is a neighbor's cat, but no one really takes care of him... though he is
also
spayed (or so I'm told). He is outdoors at all times and is missing one eye
because its owners did not do anything about it (I'm furious about that!).
And last, but not least,
Flama. He rarely comes around, or at least we rarely see him; he pretty much only comes
around when my other cat, Charm, is "in heat" and meowing through the windows.
When I saw this bunny, his little eyes were glazed over with pain. It was so sad
to see. I ask you, why must people let their cats run around? I understand the
strays, but Ninja and Flama have homes, and Fluffy has learned how to push
window screens out. Look at what happened to Ninja as a result -- he got in a
fight and lost his eye! Even worse, his owners didn't do a thing about it.
I'm just so full of emotion, I'm all over the map. Basically what I'm trying
to say is...Keep your cats indoors. They might end up getting hurt, or killing
baby bunnies (and when they don't finish the job, it's really just wrong...).
If you want
a cat, at least make an attempt to keep it inside... save the bunnies! ^-^
Lots Of Love,
Firecat
