Hey guys, this is hottiemb with an article for you about campaigning signs.

Recently, our school held a school presidential election. Since I go to a small school, there were only two people running. One candidate put up posters, stickers, etc. all over the school that said, "Vote For Me". The other candidate did not post anything anywhere.

When it was time for their speeches, the two both got up on stage. The boy who didn't put up posters and things, I thought, had a really good speech and a really good point. He said that posting a sign wasn't going to do anything. The people who were going to vote for him were going to vote for him whether he put up a sign or not. The people who weren't going to vote for him weren't voting for him, and a simple, dumb sign probably wasn't going to change their mind.

I think he had a really good point. If you think about it, do signs really make that big of a difference? People know who they want to win elections and they don't need to be reminded by signs. It's like a waste of time. Isn't this the same with Whyville?

Did you vote for who you did because you saw signs or because you thought that person was the best candidate? Did you change your vote because of signs? Most people would answer no, I think.

Signs really aren't what elections are about, after all. Just keep that in mind.

Editor's Note: What do you think of those folks who aren't super well-known before an election? If their supporters carry around enough signs, maybe they'll have a chance against the better-known folks. No doubt that no smart citizens vote for a candidate because of a sign, but they might check out that person, see what they stand for, especially if someone they trust is carrying that sign.

I'm not saying that's necessarily what happens, just presenting the other side of the argument. What do our readers think?
