As I write, it is Tuesday, the first Tuesday of the month. I went to the "Meet the Makers" meeting at Club Why with the CWs (some of them, at least).
I talked to Jen, Mark, Neutral, GumbyTam, and
Scyllacat. Here's what they told me:
GumbyTam:
* Gumby has been working here a little over a year.
* The Mall is coming, but it doesn't have a sponsor, so it isn't on the high
priority list.
* These meetings are held the first Tuesday of every month.
* The Newbie Center will be opening soon (hopefully this summer!).
* The reason more land plots are not made is because there is not enough room on
the server to make more.
* If you want to be on the Safety Patrol, keep in mind that the best citizens on
Whyville are
chosen to fill this position -- there is no application you can fill out.
Neutral:
* If you do not log in your user name for 3 to 6 months, your account will expire.
* Mark is the main programmer, but neutral helps lots too.
* CWs can get taped. Editor's Note: And if a City Worker does
something tape-worthy, they might even be fired.
* CWs can get fired.
* Neutral tests all games to see if there are any bugs, and then tries to fix
them.
* The next real live meeting to meet the CWs is not determined yet.
* If you detect a bug and tell Neutral, you may get a 20-500 clam reward.
* Cyranojoe is the editor Editor's Note: Hey, who sez? Just goes to
show you that CWs don't necessarily know everything! :-)
* CWs do not get free WhyPasses: They must buy them.
Jen: (I have a lot from her because she was second to show up and was one of the
first CWs on Whyville!)
* The Face Factory isn't open on weekends because Akbar (read earlier in this
article to find out which CW) cannot look though them all and would have no end
to it
* They're hoping to open the Newbie Center this summer or later this year.
* The old CEO of Whyville thought of WhyPox. She does not work here anymore
but the idea remains with Whyville still.
* The Solstice Safari will start again next week (so be prepared for sign ups!).
* The People Finder tool may be made this summer.
* We might be able to be CWs when we are older and out of school and we send in our resume
to the company to work a real job.
* The CWs are located in Texas (1), and New York (1) and the rest in Los
Angeles, Calif. (11).
* A third senator will be elected this month.
* CWs don't have great faces in order to support newbies, and because they don't
have enough time to shop and put on new face parts.
* CWs are adults that work full time for the city
* The CWs who started Whyville who are still around are Mark, Turnip, Superid,
and Jen.
History of Club Why (as told by Jen):
In 2001, there was a problem. Whyville was wayyy behind on all their payments. They
were about to close Whyville down!
To solve the problem, the CWs of Whyville sent out a newsletter
advertising for Club Why. It cost $25 (U.S. money -- if you paid from Canada or
other countries, the money would automatically convert [mark told me this]). Unfortunetly, only about 50 people joined; Whyville needed hundreds or even a few thousand in order to be able to pay for itself. (One of those people who bought a Club Why membership with real money was cazybaby1, who
was at the meeting.)
As you can tell, that was not enough. The price was changed to $15 a
year. That got more people, but still not enough. Then it was made so that you
also could pay $10 or 500 clams a year. Finally, this idea was given up and they went to
just 1000 clams a year. That is why WhyPasses have been started, in order to
help pay some of Whyville's many bills.
This is Starswepr, signing off because my mom is making me clean bathrooms (what
a bore)! =P
