If the title applies to you, please read on. I have a helpful tip on how you might get at least a 30 clam bonus for completing the Times crossword puzzle, which appears in the paper nearly every week.

Did you know that all the answers of the puzzle come directly from citizen's articles themselves? That's right. So you need to read all the articles before you start the puzzle, or be willing to go back and forth from question to question in the crossword.

The fact I have learned, though, is that if you're in the middle of the puzzle and you need to look up something from an article and you leave the crossword screen, when you come back your crossword work will have vanished. This is where my clever thinking has come in.

For this part, you need to get a piece of paper and a writing utensil. (If you want, you could use a little writing program on your computer to note it down, too.) This will let you flip back and forth from the crossword to other articles. Here is how I would recommend you outline your crossword-information paper, assuming that the numbers are right:

Across Down
2. 1.
4. 3.
6. 5.
8. 7.

Always leave large spaces beside the numbers, because you may not be sure how large the answer will be. Now this is the researching part. You can flip back and forth from crossword to article, writing in the answers on your crossword information sheet that I created above. As soon as you have all your answers, you can go to the crossword and fill them in. If your answers are correct, then a little window will pop up and tell you your answers were correct and you get a 30 clam bonus!

Have fun with your crosswording ventures in future Times papers!
