Online dating! What a joke. Who needs it? I don't think it's appropriate or effective in any way.

In a nutshell, more than half the time (from what I've seen), people are online dating someone that they don't even know! I don't know about you, but if I'm dating someone I don't even know, it can't be leading to anything good. For all you know, you could be dating a 65-year-old man who's claiming he's 13! You might not know more than their name, age, and country they live in -- and you shouldn't give out more of your own info than that, a lot of people say.

To me, just knowing their age and name isn't enough to make me go out with someone. I have to know more than that, but (some people might say unfortunately) you can't get that kind of trust on-line. Your "soul mate" shouldn't be who the hottest cartoon is on Whyville or who makes the most clams. Because in reality it's not like that. It's much much deeper than that!

I think that Whyville definitely promoted dating by having the prom a few years back. It really set me back a while, and I thought about it. All of these girls were running around saying, "Press 666 if you think I'm hot" or things like "If you're single and looking press 381."

All of those Whyvillians who think having a date or a more intimate friend is the cool thing to do, well, it's not really as cool as people make it out to be.

The point being, you don't know enough about the person you're trying to hook up with. I will admit, I have been sucked into the whole idea of having a boyfriend. But after a day or two, I didn't like it! He kept sending me y-mails over and over again. He would send me ClamGrams and gifts when I didn't need them. When I told him to finally stop, he thought I didn't appreciate him. Maybe I didn't. There was a missing link. Actually, there were a few missing links. I was so caught up in the fact that I had a real boyfriend that I didn't even know his name! I felt so dumb calling him "honey" and "sweetie" because I didn't know his name, and that's not how I felt about him!

I hope you learned something from this, or that you at least see my points are good. Pass it on! And think twice before you lock yourself into a relationship that you want for the wrong reasons.
