Hello I am rubyred3. I'm writing to tell you something about my father's job.
My father works at Maytag, at a factory that makes washing machine parts,
refrigerator parts, and some other things. He drives a fork lift to help move
things around.
His company is moving their workers' jobs to Mexico because people down there
work for only like 50 cents a day. Unlike the $400 my dad makes a week.
Now a lot of the people who work for Maytag are on strike! I feel so bad because
many people don't think that it will pay off in the end. I really don't want my
dad to lose his job because of the stupid greedy people in my town. And I hope
you understand, too.
Basically I wrote this to tell people about the greediness in the world and how
a group of people's decisions can cost 1,100 people their jobs.
Thanks, and don't be greedy... please.

Editor's Note: I'm sorry your dad is facing such a difficult situation, rubyred3
-- we all wish you well!
This article brings up a lot of questions, though, doesn't it? Like, when is it
okay for a business to try to save money -- and when is it really not fair? What
rights should people have, and what rights should companies have? Pretty general
questions, but history shows there's a wide variety of very specific problems
that come from this sort of debate between workers and business owners. From the
grocery workers in southern California last year to the newsies of New York last
century, the battle between money and morals wages on....
