Hello, fellow Whyville Citizens. I was reading the paper and I saw an article on Harry Potter and it made me think. Fantasy books everywhere are being made into movies.

A movie is currently in the works for my own favorite trilogy, "His Dark Materials", written by Philip Pullman. The series features two young children, Lyra and Will. They are from two separate worlds and they meet by chance when Lyra discovers a "window". They travel together from world to world and battle their way through many different predicaments, eventually falling in love. (You will have to read the books to find out what I'm talking about.)

I am very happy about this movie-making news!

The first movie is expected to be released in late 2005 or early 2006. Now, any of you who know anything about the "The Lord of the Rings" movies will know that New Line Cinema produced them. This is also the company that will be producing "His Dark Materials". I have not heard anything about a director, cast, or who will be doing special effects, but I have my fingers crossed that it will be Weta, who did a lot of the special effects for "The Lord of the Rings" as well.

Now, for any of you now interested, the title of the first book is "The Golden Compass"; the second is "The Subtle Knife"; and the third is "The Amber Spyglass". I strongly suggest that anyone who is interested in fantasy of any kind read these books because I was entirely blown away by them. They are absolutely amazing.
