What is Canada Day?

That was my first question when I read the calendar. I looked at the day of July 1st. It seemed interesting to me, to be so curious about this, so I immediately started asking questions.

First I went to the Ask Jeeves website to find out what exactly Canada Day was. There I found out a lot.

Canada Day was originally known as Dominion Day and Confederation Day, or July the 1st. The celebration is held on July 1st due to the things that happened on that day: The British North America Act (BNA) created the Canadian Federal Government.
The BNA Act said: One Dominion under the name of Canada. That's where the name of the day came from. I also read that if July 1st is a Sunday, then they celebrate it on Monday.

I also got information from Deriko. He was very helpful, explaining to me why this day was of importance to him and what he does on this day. Here is the information I got from him:

Me: What do you do at the race?
Deriko: Race five kilometers.

Me: Do you have races every year?
Deriko: I try to enter as many races a year as possible.

Me: So you run 5 km?
Deriko: Yea.

Me: How have you been training?
Deriko: Running, LOL.

Me: Do you stretch before you run?
Deriko: Sometimes.

Me: Is it fun or challenging?
Deriko: Both.

Me: So, I read that if July 1st is on a Sunday, then it is celebrated on a Monday -- is that true?
Deriko: No,I don't believe so. But I wouldn't know, I've never looked into it.

Me: So why is this day important to you? Do you have a party?
Deriko: This day is important to me because it is my friend's birthday. But no particular Canada Day parties.

Me: But does your friend ever have his/her parties on the day of July 1st?
Deriko: I'm not sure, sometimes, sometimes not.

Me: Thanks, Deriko, you helped a lot.
Deriko: Welcome. Helped with what?

Me: Helped me understand this holiday.
Deriko: Welcome. :)

I hoped you enjoyed my article!
