Hello, hello. My name is Mappum and I have an article for you. A lot of you know
about all this big news about the election and who is going to be our next
senator, and who you are going to vote for. Please keep in mind that in this
article, I do not mean to say you should vote or should not vote for JoelGC -- I
just found this topic interesting.
If you read the platforms in the Times, or if you were at the debate between the
candidates, you might have noticed that JoelGC has bad spelling and grammar.
That is what this article is about. He has told us that cannot help this
problem. Joel has a disability similar to dyslexia: his is called
dysgraphia.
Dysgraphia is a learning disability that makes it difficult for you to
read and/or spell well. I interviewed JoelGC about this, and you may
notice that almost all of his responses are spelled wrong. Take a look:
Me: You have stated that you have a disability similar to dyslexia. Can you
explain that disability?
JoelGC: Yes My disibility is call dixcrafia. Its harder for me to wright have
good gramer and spell. And I read senteces wrong
Me: How do you feel about this?
JoelGC: Well its a chanlenge becuase I work harder
Me: Do people make fun of you or not vote for you just because of this?
JoelGC: In real life yes people mak fun of me Some people do on Whyville
Me: Do you think this could also work as the opposite of question 3 and people
would feel sorry for you?
JoelGC: Im not sure I dont think soo
Me: Do you think you still can be a good senator, even if you have this
disability?
JoelGC: Yes I think I can im just like everyone els just with a disiblty im
still normal
JoelGC is right. He is just like everyone else... he is still normal and
probably could be a good senator. But this whole thing leaves me to a question
to investigate: Is JoelGC really just a bad speller and needs an excuse?
I'm sorry my article was short, but keep that question in mind.
Editor's Note: Normally we fix everyone's spelling in interviews, but
we left this one alone to allow you to see JoelGC's original words. On a
separate note, I think Mappum brought up the most interesting question at the start of this article:
Can JoelGC still be a senator, even if he has disabilities? Or more
specifically, whether or not it's really a disability, can bad spelling get in
the way of being a good Senator?
Also, go to "Senator Candidates Speak Out!" by smileon7 for a list of links relating to dysgraphia, at the bottom of the article.
