Hello Whyvillians! Yes, we're lucky enough to have the new Adobe Photo Contest going this month. As announced last week, it's time for a new set of rules!
The first two contests asked you to send in your best photos of your pets. This time around, we're challenging you to take creative, interesting, beautiful pics of your pets -- AND your newspaper! It may not seem obvious, but I bet there's dozens of creative ways you can think of to show your local paper (or another newspaper you like a lot, hint hint) in a photo with your pet. Make sure we can read the date on that paper, too, okay?
You can still win clams and maybe even get a brand-new version of Adobe's latest
software, so get snapping, and good luck!
For the new folks, a few months ago, Adobe, the company that makes Photoshop and all kinds of other great photo editing software, announced they were sponsoring a digital photography contest in
Whyville. We were very excited, and received dozens if not hundreds of stellar photos. You can see some of the photos from the semifinalists in the welcome page, in fact.
As before, Whyville City Workers will select 25 winners from what you folks submit every month. These semi-finalists will get 200 clams each, and they'll be showcased
both in Whyville and on Adobe's Digital Kids Club website!
After three months, three grand prize winners will be chosen out of our top 75.
Those top winners will get a full version of Adobe's Photoshop Elements 2.0!
This link will help you take great pet photos: http://www.adobe.com/education/digkids/lessons/petphotos.html.
It's got detailed instructions on how to balance light and shadow, how to
capture your subject's spirit, and how to edit your photos stylishly.
And if you don't have anything at home for editing your pics, here's a download
of the Photoshop Album Starter Edition. Best of all, it's free!!! Ask your
parents before downloading: http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshopalbum/starter.html
Here are your photo requirements:
- Take the best digital photo of your pet, or a friend's pet, along with a newspaper!
- Try to make sure the date on the paper is visible in the picture.
- Your photo must be a JPG file (.jpg, .jpeg or .JPG).
- Please don't send anything larger than 1 megabyte (MB).
- For safety reasons, you can't have any human faces in the picture. That includes
photographs in the background of your photo, though photos in the paper should be okay.
- Make sure that the photo you submit is yours, okay? It has to be something you
took, not something you found online. That would not be the Whyville Way.
To submit your best digital photograph of your pet, go here: http://www.whyville.net/photoContest/.
You'll want to enter a title, a short description, and then click the
Browse button to navigate
to the file on your computer. Once you've found the file, press the Upload button.
You might have to wait many minutes for the file to
finish uploading, depending on the speed of your network connection. Please be
patient.
If everything goes well with the contest, Adobe and Whyville will pick a
different subject and do the same thing all over again!
Help us make this sponsorship a great success -- do your best to submit the
greatest photo you can!!
