Looking at the petitions, and even the polls, it's clear to me that people are not being apathetic with Whyville. They really care. Fact is, though, everything Whyville has right now has its own purpose, and not everybody understands that.

I am going to go through some common problems with Whyvillians today, and it may help people stop fighting over what makes Whyville what it is.

One of the bigger issues is part expiration. Nobody wants his or her parts to expire. However, it is understandable. Whyville, like most sites, runs on servers. Every little thing Whyville has in it takes up space on the server. So, rather than paying more and more money that they most likely cannot afford, they expire face parts in order to make room and put some limit on the growth of face parts. Meanwhile, salaries are going up so we can all afford more and more new face parts!

Here is another complaint -- the Why-Pass. Why do these people get special privileges? It is simple -- they pay for it. Since they help keep Whyville alive, they deserve a little extra. Remember, people who buy Why-Passes are saving Whyville for all of us.

Another big issue is bigger salaries. More clams. You should get clams given to you, some people suggest. Why? They want more clams to purchase face parts. What we look like is starting to matter more than the real purpose of Whyville -- to get people interested in science. If you want a bigger salary, you know what to do: Work for it. Salary can't get bigger? Tough. Save up.

So next time you want to start a petition, think about what it does, means, and if it actually works in real life rather than on paper.

This short article is brought to you by ruffy. Peace.
