"OMG you look so cool icyfairy!"
"What's your ______ (insert face part here) called?"
"I love your ______ (insert another face part in here)!!"
These are some of the comments I receive from people on Whyville all the time. I go into a
room, and suddenly there's a flock of people around me, all saying the sayings
above (sometimes combining two or all of them). But, after all this, I sure wouldn't
expect people to accuse me of certain things.
One of them I received at
the Pool Party. It's called a PARTY for a reason! Be nice, people!! Anyway, somebody came up to me and said, "Ew, you're so conforming!"
He he... I was a little shocked. For two reasons, actually. Number One was that I had to look up the word 'conforming'... and
Number Two was that she actually spelt
the word 'conforming' right!! It was amazing.
After hitting the dictionary, I went back to the Pool Party,
and, luckily, the girl was still there. I went right up to her and said... wait,
I'll just show you what we said.
Me: Hey. What do you mean by conforming?
Her: Duh, do you not know what the word meenz?
Me: I do. But...what did you mean?
Her: Duh. Look at you. Your hair, your eyes, your shirt,
everything about you is taken from somebody else!
Me: ...
Her: Duh your hair is called Disstractedd, your eyes are Goddess
Eyes, and your shirt is called Cotton Candy Sweetness. And your eyes are places
so low on your face you look demented! Like everybody else.
Me: ...
Her: OMG you noob. Go home!!
Me: ...
Her: Hello...?
Me: ...
Her: OMG were you listening?
Me: Yeah, I was.
And that's when I left the Pool Party. (Some party. Hmph.) I mean, you wanna
know the reason I 'conform' sometimes? Check out Lilcas's last article, "Time for a Change". That's
why. Because if you're not dressed like everybody else, you get made fun of. And
I admit, I'm not one of those 'stand against the odds, defend your rights' type
of person. So please, everybody, STOP JUDGING!
Is it really fair to have someone judging you all the time on some little
floating head on the internet?? That's not what people (or Whyville, for that
matter) are really all about.
Please. I'm not asking you this as a
Whyvillian, or as a Guest Writer, or even a 'conformist'. I'm asking you as a
person. From one person to another, as my granddad used to say, Stop caring
about looks and look deeper than that!
I know you hate being told this, because I do too -- I get it from my parents all the
time. But nothing is all about you. Every floating head on Whyville is another
person, with their own set of tastes and feelings and who-knows-what.
Anyways,
this lecturer is done (and her fingers hurt from all the typing!!).
