"I'm going to run for Whyville Senate. Let's see, first I have to write a
platform and campaign hard. Hopefully the people will vote for me.
In my platform I will include realistic promises and things I really think people
will want *and* can have. That will give them a good reason to support my
platform."
That's one way of doing things... here's a second way:
"Oh, the Senate is running again. I have so many friends on Whyville everyone
will vote for me. I'll just promise to get the mall open and have more plots,
people will vote for me. I guess I'd better get a new look..."
The second candidate went shopping as the first one went around Whyville telling
people her
plans and promises. Then the second one Y-mailed all of her friends, telling
them to vote for her.
Well, both the first and second candidates got in as two of the top three people
in the Senate Race. At the debate, the
first person cried out, "Vote for Me!" and answered questions from the audience.
The second one had just changed her look and didn't really talk to anyone but her
friends.
Then came the day to vote. All of Whyville voted, and guess who had won...
The second one. Just because she looked better, because we all know that everyone always votes for
the prettiest one.
The first candidate felt pretty down. She felt she could have won if she had looked
better....
This is just an example of how a Senate should not work, but many of us
fear that sometimes it will work out this way.
This time, when you vote, make sure you know who to vote for. Try to go to the
Debate. If you can't make it, read about it in the Whyville Times -- and even if
you were there, you might want to read the transcript again, in case you missed
anything. Keep up to date and also read the
platforms in the Times.
This way when you vote, you'll know it will be
someone who will represent Whyville in a great way. Let's base this election on true
results, not just the beauty.
Dancer153, signing off to read the Whyville Polls.
p.s. Looks aren't everything... so who will you vote for?
