Want to learn more about the candidates? There's another interview in this week's Times, and the Debate transcript too!

Arr, me hearties. It be armada here again, givin' you the low-down on the Senate Race.

*cough* Ahem. Alright, enough of the pirate business.

After preliminary voting, the top three candidates for this election earned more than 550 of your votes between them. Our official candidates are softbll12, Soccer678, and Suga246. If you haven't read each of their platforms yet, please do so before continuing. You can also read the official Senate Debate transcript in this week's Times.

Done? Good.

About a week or so ago, I asked each of the candidates a set of ten questions, with the same wording and in the same order. Here is what they said:

Armada: How long have you been on Whyville?
softbll12: I've been on Whyville since October 2003.
Soccer678: I've been a member of Whyville for almost a year. I joined October 5, 2003 so it's almost a year. :)
Suga246: I have been on for about 3-4 years, just not on this account.

Armada: Do you think it has improved since you joined? Why or why not?
softbll12: I think Whyville has improved. Now we have a new trading post, Whyville Crossword, the Newbie Center, and Lifetime Whypasses.
Soccer678: No, I don't think that Whyville has improved when I joined because when I first joined I didn't really care about Whyville, I was just on for the fun of it. But now, I want to be the Whyville Senator so I think that if I'm elected as Senator then Whyville would improve. :)
Suga246: I think in ways it improved, but in others it didn't, but that's just my opinion!

Armada: Why do you want to be Senator?
softbll12: I want to help make Whyville a better place with some of my ideas.
Soccer678: The reason I want to be senator is because I have a lot of great ideas... well, at least I think. I know I didn't write the best platform but I'am in the process of writing a new one. Another reason I want to be Senator is because I go on a lot and I could do a lot of good things on Whyville to make it better then it already is. :)
Suga246: I want to become senator because I want to try and change Whyville a bit for the better, whyvillians have great ideas and I just don't think some of them are being represented.

Armada: Are you dressing up/dressing down when we see your face on the front page? Why or why not?
softbll12: I'm going to keep the same look. Why wouldn't I? I don't care what I look like, and hopefully others don't, too. Vote for someone because you like their ideas and think they'd make a good senator.
Soccer678: Well, I like how I look right now and if I tried to dress up or down, then people would just think that I'm only in the top three because people voted for me because I was pretty and because I changed my look every day, which I don't and never will. Also for the whole Senate Race, I looked the same with the same hair but I changed it not even knowing what place I was in.
Suga246: I change my look often because of all the new parts that come out, but I never change my look just to impress people, my look always represents what I feel, not others'.

Armada: Do you get any hate mail from Whyvillians and/or candidates?
softbll12: Yep, I have from Whyvillians, but not candidates.
Soccer678: Nope, I've never got any, but in my BBS comments I got a lot a bad comments because of my first poorly written platform but as you know I am trying to change it.
Suga246: I actually got a lot of it the first time I ran, but this time I have only got a few, but it was because I wouldn't bribe them to vote for me. =\

Armada: How old are you?
softbll12: I don't really want to tell, but I'm 12.
Soccer678: I am 12 years old.
Suga246: I am 14, turning 15 later this year.

Armada: If elected, do you think you could deal with the pressure of being a Senator?
softbll12: Of course, if I didn't, I wouldn't have run. =)
Soccer678: Yes. I think I could handle the pressure because I worked really hard getting votes and answering questions in my BBS comments and also I am working extra hard on my new platform that I am writing to submit to the Times.
Suga246: Yeah, I know it would be tough to deal with, but I think I could handle it; of course, I haven't ever been senator before, so I won't know unless I win!! ;)

Armada: Do you participate in politics outside of Whyville? i.e., Do you watch John Kerry/George Bush on television or are you member of a Debate Team? Do you think it helps?
softbll12: I do watch Kerry and Bush make speeches on television.
Soccer678: No... I don't watch those kind of things, but in some of my classes for school that hasn't started yet we have debates, so I think that helps me a little bit and sometimes I try to get to the debates with the other Senate candidates.
Suga246: Well, I am Canadian, so I don't really pay attention to Bush and Kerry, lol.

Armada: Do you have any advice for Whyvillians who are going to run for Senator once they get more experience?
softbll12: Don't give up. Make sure your platform has good, reasonable ideas. Also, campaign! Don't just make a platform and leave it there hoping it will get votes... a lot of people probably wouldn't know you are running unless you tell them.
Soccer678: Yeah, be prepared to work hard! Don't give up, just keep trying! :)
Suga246: They should just be themselves and make sure to listen to Whyvillians, old, new, black, white... no matter what they look like! Whyvillians have great ideas if you take the time to listen to them.

Armada: Any final words?
softbll12: Remember everyone, don't vote for one of us just because of looks, popularity, or ideas that are awesome but can't happen. Look at my article called "Voter's Do's and Don'ts." Thanks!
Soccer678: Good luck to all the other candidates that are running! :) And may the best Girl win! =)
Suga246: Thanks for taking the time to y-mail me some questions, and good luck to softball and soccer. :D

(I only edited the spelling, not any of the words themselves. Anything else that was changed was done by the Editor. :-)

Well, there you have it, folks. Who will you vote for? That's up to you. Who will win the coveted honor of being named Senator? Only time will tell.

Show your support and speak your mind on the BBS.

Armada here, signing off.
