So, it's the end of summer and you have to get ready for school
again, and I'm here to help you out! ...in your room, anyway.
To have an
organized school life, you need an organized bedroom. Here is what you
have to do:
1) Get rid of junk. This is
where you get one of those huge garbage
bags and throw out anything that should have been thrown out a long
time ago. Yes, the pop can pyramid must go!
2) Clean out your desk. Take
everything off and out of your desk. Go
through it all and don't keep things from last year; that stuff can be
packed away in the attic or the basement. Once you have all the old
stuff out of the way, sort through the newer things. Make a pile (a
neat one) of things that you'll need for math homework, another for
science, reading, etc. Group things that go together, like math and
science, and put them in the same drawer.
Now you've got the tools
put away, but you still have all these binders and sheets of paper.
Well, you'll need paper at home and at school, but more at school (at
least, I do). I
suggest making one binder for extra paper -- put that on a shelf
nearby. Then you should make binders for each subject, or you can
combine them if you like. Once you finish a unit or section in a
certain subject, put it in these binders, because they'll come in very
handy
when it comes to midterms and finals. Put these binders on the shelf
next to the paper binder.
Now for the pens and pencils and erasers and
everything else small that you can imagine. If you have one of those
smaller top drawers, I suggest using that for these items, but it may
get too full from the whack-load of pens that you've collected over the
years. If that is the case, then you need to test all of the pens and
toss the ones that don't work (or give the ones you don't like to your
friends or siblings!). Then put the good ones in a mug on the
far corner of the desktop. If you have a computer, place it where you
feel comfortable, but be sure you leave space for the handwritten
things.
3) Move around your room. What
better way to make a change than to
actually change something? You will be able to function better if your
space is organized into sections. It doesn't work very well if your
workspace is the same as your sleeping space or if your dressing space
is the same as your entertaining/hang out space. You need to move your
room around so
that each activity has its own defined space.
4) Clean out your closet! It
may seem impossible, but it can be done!
It's so much easier when you wake up late for school and you're in
a hurry to find your clothes quickly; instead of wasting the
little time that you have searching under your bed and behind your
television, you know where to find what you need! This step actually
isn't that hard. You don't have to set
up your closet perfectly, just so that you understand it. Remember,
it's hidden
behind doors. So get in there and tackle that mess. I'm not going to
tell you how to do this step, because everyone is different -- maybe
your
mess isn't your closet, but your dressers or storage bins. Just make
sure you know where each article of clothing is and you'll be fine.
Well, I hope this long article helps you with your back-to-school
jitters. And I'm off to organize my bedroom.
Tootles!!
