Why-Passes. They make our community grow and they are desperately
needed. I want Whyville to grow in every way possible, but I just don't
think I can do it through a Why-Pass.
I know some of you may be
thinking, "Oh, she's so unkind," but I really want to help and I know
many others in my situation, too. Below you'll find some reasons that
we just can't. Maybe some of our questions can be cleared up, and we'll
be
able to buy?!
Q. I would
love a lifetime Why-Pass. All the great deals and awesome
new things I would be able to do, but I'm Canadian and don't have
American money.
Can I pay $20 Canadian? Or do have to pay American in Canadian? (By
paying approximately 25 cents more for every $1.00.)
A. Yes, we need you to pay $20 American. You
can pay in Canadian, and
yes, $20 U.S. is more than $20 Canadian -- but that's because what you
give us, no matter what country it's from, is worth exactly $20 U.S. to us,
and we have to pay our bills in American money.
Q. My
parents don't want to give their credit card number out on the
Internet. Is there another way I can pay?
A. Absolutely!!! Probably the easiest thing
for most citizens is to go to
their local post office to buy a money order. It's like buying a
one-time check, and it's a very cheap way to guarantee your money is
protected in the mail.
You can also send a check, or you can
register for a PayPal account,
which is a specially secure method of paying for things online. That
said, our security is very very good, and we will never give out your
parents' credit card number -- if they are concerned, they're more than
welcome to give us a call at our office number, which you can find on
the Numedeon website (Numedeon.com.
Q. I
believe that the money does go to Whyville but others may not.
What do you spend the Why-Pass money on? Does this money go to your
salary?
A. All the money for Why-Passes go to supporting Whyville. There are a
lot of expenses associated with running our town: the servers, the
insurance, the phone line, the rent. Why-Passes aren't making enough to pay
for these items yet, let alone the salary of our city workers. But do
remember that without city workers, we'd have to shut the city down, so
the salaries of the city workers are an integral part of our town's
expenses!
Q. Is there
any other way we can help out Whyville other than buying a Why-Pass?
A. There's nothing that means more to us
than the love and support of our citizens. But hey, we're talking money
here, the stuff that keeps Whyville open! As valuable as Why-Passes are
in keeping the site going, sponsors are the big benefactors that keep
things going. You can write letters to your favorite companies, or even
go up to their home offices and convince them personally.
Q. Many
Whyvillians think we should just pay in clams to help out
Whyville. I thought this when I was younger too, but I know now. Could
you explain for the ones who don't understand.
A. Unfortunately, Whyville can't pay its bills with clams. Our server
bills, our rent, our phone bills all have to be paid with real money. Imagine your parents working for a company that wanted to pay them in clams! ;-)
That's why buying Why-Passes with clams won't really help us. Consider
buying a Why-Pass to support our town! Really, $20 for a Lifetime Pass
is the best deal there is out there. Where else have you seen anything for a
lifetime cost only $20?
Thank you for answering these difficult questions. Hopefully many
will now understand the importance of Why-Passes and why we need them.
Thanks,
