For a long time ever since I was about five, I've always wanted to vote for
President. I'd ask my mom if she could take me to register to vote, but she
would say, "You can't vote."
Disappointed by her words, I asked, "Why??" She
responded, "You have to be 18 or older." Ever since then I wanted to vote. (And
I still do!)
About five years later, it was about election time again. Again, disappointed I couldn't vote,
I decided to go on my computer... and while I was in a chat room,
someone was talking about Whyville.net, saying how wonderful it was. I went
to the site, joined and waited until I could chat. When I finally could, I saw
people talking about a "Senate Debate."
'What's this?' I wondered.
So, I read the rules, the platforms, and did everything I
could to basically find out about the Debate. Once I found out what it was, I realized
that the Senate Race was just like voting for President. (Except
less power, and duties.)
That's when I thought, "No more waiting until I'm 18!"
The election rolled around,
I made my vote, and I was glad that I did something I've waited to do for so
long. (Yes, it was just for a website, but it's closer than anything!)
Nowadays, I look forward to 'em every two months! And maybe, just maybe one day
I may be the first woman President. (NOT! LoL!)
Editor's Note: If you were reading the Media Menu this summer, you may
have noticed that the MediaWiz pointed out at least one good show about how some
people in the U.S. want to change the legal voting age... to as young as 14
years old. Do you think you should have the right to vote for President when
you're that age? When is a good time? What should people have to know before
they're allowed to vote, in Whyville and out? Why?
