Editor's
Note: This is perhaps the most wildly inaccurate and sadly
ignorant article we have ever received here at the Whyville
Times. Normally, we would not publish something like this, or at
least we would correct the most egregious and extreme factual
errors. In this case, however, I think Whyvillians will be best
served by challenging themselves -- can you figure out what the
concrete, factual mistakes in this article are? Don't post your
immediate reaction in the
BBS. Think about it. Look up some facts, about
American Indians, the U.S. government, and reservations, not to mention
nuclear waste, weapons and power. (Here's two directions to take it:
What exactly *is* nuclear waste? and Did any American Indians really
take scalps; if so, who, when and why?) Don't focus on the
discrimination this
author exhibited in this article. If you can prove someone's facts all
wrong, then their opinions have no power. Of course, you could prove
*me* wrong, too! Whatever you do, please share your logic, research,
and
carefully-thought out opinions with your fellow Whyvillians in the BBS
below! A thorough report of everything discussed in the BBS might make
a good article, too.
What's the big deal with Yucca Mountain? The Native Americans
have always been a problem. Sure, some of the stuff we did to them in the
beginning were bad, but they've done equally evil things. They scalp
fallen warriors and praise demonic gods. If it weren't for the English
coming over, the Native Americans would've ripped each other apart. I
mean, they hadn't invented the wheel until we came over, for heaven's
sake!
Why do these Native Americans need these reservations anyway??
They don't live in those places because they need a place to live their
culture. They stay there because they don't have the willpower and,
pardon me, brains to live by themselves. The Native Americans should
live on their own.
Finally, dumping our nuclear waste -- well, there's no
other place to put it. And to answer your question, Outgoing, the
reason we have nuclear weapons is to protect our country. If we didn't,
the enemy nations could tear the last great country into smithireens.
Those "Indians" don't need those reservations -- they need to stay in
touch with the real world and get an education.
I hate to say it, but those Indians need to get smart and start
their own lives like the rest
of us do.
No sympathy,
