As most of you may know, even though Whyville
is a web site for all ages, our town is made up of mostly kids. Kids
playing the games,
kids chatting in chat rooms, kids decorating their online faces, but
most importantly, kids reading articles.
Hello, this is camii559, formerly known as Girlie191. I recently read
an article about vegetarians, and why it's such a good idea. I'm not
saying it's not true, but I'd like to point out the opinion of many
doctors, including mine, about the effects of vegetarianism on kids.
My doctor is constantly telling my brothers and sisters and I not
to become vegetarians. "It's okay for your parents to drop meat from
their diets," she says, "But you kids are still growing! You need
your protein! Meat is very important, remember that!"
Studies show that
children who eat a healthy amount of meat usually grow up to be
stronger and healthier than kids who have been vegetarians since they
were young. However, you don't want to load up on meat either! The
healthiest diet is a balanced one, I am told.
I have also read that children who are vegetarians most often don't
have a proper motivation. Many kids become vegetarians for silly
reasons,
such as they think it will make them skinnier, they want to avoid meat
foods they don't want to eat, or they're even just being dramatic.Let me just say, being a
vegetarian won't make you cooler or skinnier than you are. The
best way to do that is by exercising, eating a balanced diet, and
taking part in activities after school. This will help stabilize your
health and personality.
I am not trying to start any arguments, but I think it wasn't a smart
move to put an article trying to persuade the people of Whyville to
become vegetarians, because like I said, it's mostly kids. I'm trying
to correct what I believe was a wrong, and I apologize to any
vegetarians I may accidentally offend. I'm simply putting my
information and opinion out in the open, too. Thanks so much.

Note: Thank you, camii559! We appreciate hearing a wide
discussion of diet and health here in the Times and throughout
Whyville, and definitely don't mean to favor vegetarianism or any other
diet over another!
