What happens when Whyville servers are down and people don't get what they pay for?

Recently, Whyville servers have been on the fritz, causing Akbar's Face Mall not to show any parts or stores that are supposed to be listed on the front page. So, on those days, I, along with many other store owners, don't receive any business from face parts, because no one is available to buy any. And we also lose that day of advertising for our store (wasting our clams that we worked hard for).

Not exactly the most fun thing in the world....

In real life, if I was guaranteed a week of advertisement, and something went wrong, and I spoke up about it, I would most likely be refunded, or get an extra day of being listed. Wouldn't that be the fair thing to do? If so, why is this not the case on Whyville?

I understand that sometimes the servers are down for only a few hours or less instead of a whole day. Also, I recognize the fact that City Workers may not be aware of when Whyville servers are down.

So what's a citizen to do?

I'm sure that the City Workers have discussed this before, and have contemplated many solutions. Yet, it seems to me that they have not taken action in correcting this flaw. Or have they, and was I just not informed?

"Well, Penny, if you're so concerned, what's your suggestion?" you might ask.

All right, I'm not an expert, but this is my approach: For each day (maybe not exactly 24 hours, because, to my knowledge, they have no way of determining how long things have been screwed up) that stores do now show up on the front page of Akbar's Face Mall, everyone whose store was supposed to be listed at that time will get an extra day of listing.

What glitches are in my idea? Do you have an idea of your own? Who does this concern and what would we have to do to correct this problem?

POST YOUR COMMENTS IN THE BBS! (Oh, no! I'm beginning to sound like the Editor... ;P)

And also, can the Editor or another City Worker give us some sort of statement on this topic, please?

"When two men in business always agree, one of them is unnecessary."
-William Wrigley Jr.

Editor's Note: I haven't talked with the City Workers about your idea yet, but my guess is that it would be an additional load on the server to have to keep track of whether or not the stores hadn't shown up in the Mall recently. It would have to keep track of how long it had been, which stores were supposed to be there and which weren't... I suspect that this would create more trouble than it's worth at this time, but I could easily be wrong! We'll see if the CWs have anything to say about it.
