I'm not going to lie, my dad is a doctor, so I know this stuff based on his help. Now let me just ask you one question. Should we get the flu shot every fall?

If you think the answer is yes, you're WRONG!

No! Not everyone needs to get the flu shot.

My mom walked into a store the other day and was furious! Sure, she loves to shop and get discounts and things like that, but ohhh, she was throwing a fit.

This isn't like my mom... except for when I don't clean up my room (which is often, I guess, 'cause it's really messy!) What could cause her to go into a frenzy? The store was giving away over 500 flu shots!! They had already given away another 500, too. So they had had about 1000 flu shots!

Did you know that there has been a shortage in flu shots across the U.S.? My dad's office (remember, he's a doctor) didn't have 1,000 shots, so how did a store get one? Worse, a lady there offered my mom a shot for $15. She refused, and went on shopping.

Why would my mom get a shot? She's not seriously at risk -- so why did that woman offer her the shot when there are still people who truly need them?

Many people don't need flu shots. So please, save yourself from the needle... and save your parents some money and time!

The only people that should actually take the flu shot are:

  • the elderly: people over 65
  • people that are sick, or just have a thing for easily catching illnesses
  • very young children
  • doctors, dentists and other medical professionals
I'm healthy, active, and I have a cold right now. I didn't get the flu shot! But don't worry, if you take care of yourself, a cold won't kill you, nor will the flu if you're not super young or super old.

None of my brothers caught my cold (or whatever it is). My mom didn't either. Yes, my dad did... but that's because he is around people that are sick all the time, and so he is more likely to catch it.

Here is one easy thing to remember that will help you and others prevent getting the flu: Wash your hands before cooking, after the bathroom, and after you come inside from being outside. And ALWAYS, ALWAYS take a shower -- otherwise you'll have an increased chance of getting sick, and plus you'll get b.o. -- which NO ONE WANTS!!

This is freak05, saying stay healthy and clean!
