If any of you have checked the new Welcome Page in the past few days,
you may have noticed a news bulletin:
Club Why Members have a new Beta Test game: Getty ArtSets
Yes, that's right! Not only is it another great reason to join Club
Why, but we have a chance to try a great new interactive computer game while
it's still in beta! (For those of you who don't know, "beta" is the second phase
of tests on a computer game, conducted before it is released to the
public.)
Being a Club Why member, I was very excited to be able to try out this
game, and I went right to it!
I played a few rounds of ArtSets with my friends and fellow-Club Why
members KrIsTiN40, april18, and Jilly3. They all had a lot to say about
what they thought of this awesome new game.
At first, it was quite intriguing, and we all were curious to play and
see what kind of a game it was. KrIsTiN40 said that she was glad
that Whyville had gotten a new game, because there hadn't been too many
additions in a while, and she was afraid some Whyvillians were losing
interest.
The tutorial was a great help in preparing us, and we
all would have been completely lost without it! Jilly3 says, "Reading
these instructions will save you more time than not because otherwise
you'll be lost and not know what to do."
I agree with KrIsTiN40 with
her thought that, "It was very thorough and non-perplexing."
When we got through learning how to play and actually got to
it, I could tell the game was really working our brains! Jilly3 tells
me
that the first few times she played ArtSets, it was somewhat difficult,
but
soon she learned to play very well. April18 added that, in time, it
became not too hard, but not too easy -- just at the right level of
challenge.
KrIsTeN40 enjoyed the competitiveness and education you get out of it,
which she said really drives you to learn and play. April18 and Jilly3
enjoyed
how beautiful the pictures were, and how much you learned while
playing. However, I concur with Jilly3 that it is a bit discouraging
that people can leave in the middle of a game, forcing the other
players to start all over. Also, KrIsTiN40 and april18 were a bit
bothered that the tutorial didn't really explain the "No More Sets"
button, so they were a tad confused.
Overall, I think we all really enjoyed playing. While KrIsTiN40 and
Jilly3 thought the game was fun and educational, april18 was a bit
concerned about how many options there were for the different kinds of
sets. Fun and educational? Yes! Absolutely, in my opinion. But, if
there weren't as many types of sets and pictures, it wouldn't be as
challenging, and we'd probably get bored more quickly.
Kudos to the Getty Museum in Los Angeles and Whyville for bringing this
to us!
If you haven't
checked it out yet, stop reading this article and go play! =P
