Lately, the issue of whether or not to include more fashion articles in
the Times has been a HOT topic among the Times' BBSes. Many people like the fashion
articles because they get good ideas about what to wear. Many people also
despise the fashion articles, because they think the articles are meant to be
followed as rules.
Fashion is meant to be an expression of yourself. And if you have
noticed, the latest batch of fashion articles in the Times have often
included a
statement making it clear that these are only suggestions! The authors
are not
writing these articles in stone.
Some people like to know what's in, or at least what others believe is
in. Others could care less.
But you must remember, both fashion lovers and haters, that we all need
to
respect others, including what they write about and what they like to
read.
I noticed in Megsterl3's recent "Fall Fashion Essentials," she
listed the colors and styles that she understood are popular this fall.
I
personally felt the article was very well written, so naturally I went
to the
BBS to write about how much I enjoyed it. I had been needing some nice
clothes and this really helped me! But in the BBS, although I saw some
posts saying how
much they enjoyed the article, I realized that there were more posts by
people who did not enjoy it.
Fashion does seem like the thing that is consuming us daily, but we
must keep in mind that fashion is an expression. We don't have to
follow what these writers have typed up in their articles.
These fashion articles are not meant to be rules dictating our lives --
I don't think any of the authors want that, they just want to provide
helpful ideas, suggestions, things we can create or use to be ourselves.
Keep in mind that many people really enjoy following the "in"
thing. And the writers of these articles are probably very interested
in
fashion themselves. They could be changing the style in the
future.
We all have our own opinions. Please keep in mind that if you don't
agree with the article, don't get mad at the writer. She or he is just
reporting, not telling you what to do.
Please Whyville, remember that these fashion articles are not meant to
be rules, but fun!

Editor's
Note: Thanks for your article, ABbayb290. For those who complain
that fashion articles don't interest them, understand that the Times is
here for all Whyville citizens -- and every time we hold a poll, your
fellow citizens ask to read more about fashion, style and
entertainment. In fact, I bet if some of our great Times Writers who
haven't given fashion writing a shot would try it out, we might be able
to make more of these stories something you'd like to read. Is there
something about the way most fashion articles are written that you
don't like? Something the authors assume that makes you feel they're
trying to tell you you have to do what they say, and if you don't
you're a loser or something? If so, maybe you can find a way to write
about style without that -- and if not, maybe you can help us
understand why folks respond to fashion articles they way they do.
Speaking of style and entertainment, we're really looking for more
quality articles about the celebrities in Whyville, any performances
that your fellow citizens are putting on in Whyville, and news of the
clubs, companies and political groups that have formed in Whyville
lately. Don't know anything about these things? Investigate it... and
good luck!
