Ye all may think that mermaids do not exist. They do, I tell ye. I will tell ye my story about this mysterious creature.

One hot summer day, we was all busy working on the deck. It was my job to tar the mainmast's ratlines. I got distracted by the beautiful sky and the calm, tranquil waves of the sea.

Suddenly, I saw something green flip out of the water and then swim back down into the brine.

Now I was curious, so I cautiously climbed down the ratlines and peered over the edge of the boat. I saw the figure again, and tried to focus on what it was. I thought it might be a mermaid, for they do have scaly, green flippers, it be said.

With my second glance at the creature, I also saw long, red hair that trailed behind it as it swam. The glimpse revealed to me that it was, indeed, a mermaid!

At this point, I was very excited and I hauled over to the rest of the crew to tell them what I had seen, saying, "Avast ye shipmates! Ye all must take a gander at this."

I brought them over to the spot where I saw her, and just then she leaped out of the water, just like a dolphin. We watched her for a long time that day, and every time we called out for her, she would leap into the air for a split second.

Many times when we came near the area of the mermaid, she would swim alongside the ship and shake her fins like raging propellers. Although I never got to speak to her, because she rose from the water for only a short time, I felt that she could understand everything that I was saying to her. It was amazing, indeed.

Now ye all have heard my embellished tale about the mermaid I once saw. Perhaps one day you, too, may see her, if ye can face the mighty strength and beauty of the seas.

I hope you liked this! I had a lot of fun writing it. ;)
