You ever get a really short hair cut? If you have, it was probably because you
thought it was cute... but some kids are getting a really short haircut, even losing their hair
because they're going through chemotherapy, have a medical condition called
alopecia areata, or for some other medical reason.
Some of these kids get wigs from organizations like "Locks of Love." These wigs
are made of real hair, because prosthetic hair (the fake stuff) looks very bad.
Perhaps you're wondering, "Why is she saying this?" Well, you can donate your
hair to these kids! Locks of Love is a non-profit organization that takes your
hair and turns it into wigs for these brave kids
There are some rules, though -- you can also see them at http://www.locksoflove.org/donate_hair.php:
1. You must have at least 10" of hair (bottom to top) -- no wings, falls, or
synthetic hair.
2. Bundle your hair in ponytail or a braid.
3. The hair needs to be clean, dry, placed in a plastic bag, and then in a padded
envelope.
4. You can be any race, color or age, and you can be a girl or a boy.
5. Hair may be colored or permed, but not bleached or chemically damaged --
ask your hair dresser about it if you're not sure.
6. Hair swept off the floor isn't usable.
7. Hair cut years ago is usable if it has been stored in a ponytail or a braid.
8. Hair that is short, gray or unsuitable for children will be separated from
the ponytails and sold at market value to help pay for the cost of manufacturing.
9. You may pull curly hair straight in order to measure the minimum of 10 inches.
10. Layered hair may be divided into multiple ponytails for donation.
11. Anyone can cut your hair, as long as the above rules are followed.
